Demand Factors: Underlying Budget Outcome

Statistics for the federal Budget are published on both the RBA website and the federal government's own Budget website.  The figures on the two sites do not match, and neither is actually likely to be correct.  As such, the following statistics should be viewed with some caution.

For example, when it was handed down the Budget for 2008/09 was expected to result in a surplus of $21.9 billion, and this is the figure that appears in the data below.  However, the actual figure will be significantly lower due to the impact of the automatic stabilisers.  Also, the final figure is unlikely to be known for several years, as a complex series of allocations mean that these figures are always being updated.
