Demand Factors: Australian Terms of Trade
The terms of trade statistic is calculated by dividing the export price index by the import price index. As our exports become more valuable on the international market, we would expect to see the terms of trade increase. The emergence of China and India as major purchasers of our exports after 2004 is clearly revealed in the data below.
